The Poznań-Toruń duo is about to release their first album. Katarzyna Gołomska sings and Rafał Durski plays guitar and provides backing vocals. They began in 2012 and posted one of their songs online the same year.
Gołomska’s and Durski’s 2-minute minature Youth was praised by NME, the English music magazine. The composition was also noticed and broadcast by KEXP, the U.S. radio station. One might therefore say that Lilly Hates Roses have something special to offer. They’re not just “selling a piece of America in Poland”. Their approach to American folk is simple, authentic and straightforward.
Their music is rooted in tradition. This genuineness is made complete by songs that are well written. Some bands tend to demand attention in exchange for nothing more than their naturalness and truthfulness. But that’s not the case with Lilly Hates Roses. This band captures the listeners’ attention, their songs are catchy. Youth also made it to the playlist of Channel 3 of Polish Radio.
Lilly Hates Roses are also laureates of the Make More Music competition for young talents, which was organized by the Empik retail chain. The duo won the second edition of the contest, held in autumn 2012. The main prize was very concrete: a record contract with Sony Music Poland and a promotion deal with Empik. The premiere of the LP Something to Happen is scheduled for the 23rd of July. Maciej Cieślak is the producer of the album. The line-up will feature more musicians than just Gołomska and Durski.
