In Schlippenbach/Narvesen Duo, two strong voices from different generations of improvised music converge to create a special sound. By combining their individual creative energies and vocabulary the duo produces dynamic and subtle expressions in vigorously developed movements that unravel layered improvisation for the attentive listener. The pianist Alexander von Schlippenbach (b. 1938) is regarded as one of the founding fathers of progressive jazz in Europe. Schlippenbach started playing the piano at the age of 8 and went on to study composition at Cologne under Bernd Alois Zimmermann. In 1988, he founded the Berlin Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, a big band that has over the years comprised, among others, Willem Breuker, Paul Lovens, Misha Mengelberg, Evan Parker, Aki Takase, and Kenny Wheeler. His expression has been present as a vibrant and innovative voice since the 60’s.

Dag Magnus Narvesen (b. 1983) is a drummer, percussionist and composer who is mainly working in the field of improvised and contemporary music. Some of his more significant projects are DAMANA, Dag Magnus Narvesen kvintett, Harri Sjöström’s MOVE quintet and Up and Out.

Their debut album Interweaving was released as an exclusive vinyl limited edition by Nottwo Records in 2018.
