A quartet in which the best of the New York and Amsterdam improvised scenes meet. Ab Baars and Ig Henneman have been collaborating since the late 90s. In was then, at the Controindicazioni festival in Rome, that they first had the idea of working together. Since then Baars (tenor saxophone, clarinet) and musical rebel Henneman (viola) have managed to travel the whole world. Compared to them, Ingrid Laubrock and Tom Rainey seem like rookies – their first record, the highly-awaited And Other Desert Towns, premiered in 2014.
Laubrock’s performance at Baars’ and Henneman’s house in Amsterdam sparked the idea of joint concerts. Details of the new quartet’s cooperation were discussed after Rainey’s show at Amsterdam’s famous jazz mecca Bimhuis. The potential of this line-up should not be underestimated.
