The Israeli cult band, Habrera Hativeet with its charismatic leader Shlomo Bar are returning especially for the 25th jubilee edition of the Jewish Culture Festival in Krakow. The band was founded in 1977 and was one of the pioneers in combining the music of the Sephardic Jews with elements of Western music, Jewish tunes with Arab ones. Shlomo Bar – a composer, drummer and singer says that for him, “Music is something eternal, with no beginning or end”. Habrera Hativeet draws inspiration from the Bible and from contemporary Israeli poetry, Andalusian and Persian traditions alike. Their music is characterised by a rich sound, ecstatic rhythms and Shlomo’s distinctive, highly emotional voice. Today the work of the band inspires young Israeli artists and Shlomo Bar is invited by the most popular musicians of the younger generation such as the funk band The Apples who appeared at the 23th edition of our festival.
Shai Tsabari who bewitched the audience at the 24th Jewish Culture Festival, is now returning to Krakow with his new project. The Future Orchestra draws on Israeli music from the 1970s and 1980s called mizrahit, which is a mixture of sounds brought to Israel by immigrants from North Africa, Yemen and Iraq with the Western sound, mainly psychedelic rock from the US or the UK. The musicians give the mizrahit classics a modern electronic sound.
