Kutiman is an artist who needs no introduction to the festival audience. In 2012, he made the “Thru Krakow” music video with the participation of the musicians from the 22nd Jewish Culture Festival and like no one before him depicted the atmosphere of our festival. This year Kutiman is returning to Krakow, this time with his supergroup – The Kutiman Orchestra. This Israeli band consisting of brilliant musicians explosively combines funk and psychedelic music and critics compare their impact with psychoactive substances. Their debut album, released in 2007, received enthusiastic reviews and made a powerful impression on the music world and Kutiman was hailed by the British magazine Straight No Chaser as “an architect of psychedelic funk”. After the success of the Thru You (11 million plays on YouTube) and Thru You Too projects (the song promoting the project had 1.5 million plays in a week), Kutiman and his band are planning to release a new album in the summer of 2015. At our festival The Kutiman Orchestra will appear in Poland for the first time!
Alte Zachen (Yiddish for old stuff) is a band set up by Raphael Roginski, Ola Rzepka, Bartek Tyciński and Macio Moretti. The artists who have become known for compulsive musical activity are now taking a look at Hasidic nigunim mixing them with rock’n’roll, surf and psychedelic music. Their album entitled “Total Gimel” is a tribute to the religious surf culture. The name “Alte Zachen”, borrowed from the slang of Israeli scrap collectors explains the idea behind the band – they play music that sounds like the 1960s’ music but was present in the culture already 150 years ago, and its sources go back 5,000 years.
