Co-Sovel is a project of Izolda Sorenson, known from groups such as Drekoty and Julia Marcell, who has prepared material for her debut album. Her music is described as alternative pop, electronic, and indie-folk. Spirited songs performed live, complimented by the band members’ extravagant style, are full of energy and often enchant their audiences.
The lyrics, sung by the project’s leader, are her personal Slovenian-English and Slovenian-Polish translations of poems by Srecko Kosovel – a modernist, expressionist, and dadaist poet from the early XXth century. The avant-garde and constructivist qualities found in Kosovel’s poems are reflected as well in Izolda Sorenson’s mode of working – the translations are not literal, and an open-minded approach to the unique Slovene’s poetry is signified by the band’s name, a portmanteau of “Cooperation with Kosovel”.
