Gili Yalo (IL) / 27 th Jewish Culture Festival in Krakow

Gili Yalo (IL)

In his solo project, Gili Yalo combines Ethiopian musical legacy with such genres as soul, funk, groove and jazz. By collaborating with top producers (Beno Hendler of Balkan Beat Box, Uri Kinrot of Boom Pam), Gili incorporates traditional African melodies into contemporary music, creating a rich, exceptional sound.

Gili’s music embodies his family’s own personal story when, during Operation Moses, they crossed the desert on foot towards the Promised Land, singing traditional Ethiopian songs. During this exhausting and emotional journey, the music encouraged Gili and his family to keep on moving despite overpowering fatigue and resignation. The motif of this ‘movement’ is always present in Yalo’s music – from the beat and flow, and up to the lyrics, concept and style of the project. These compositions, which represent the musician’s own personal triumph over a difficult experience will be performed in the cellar of Krakow’s Alchemia music club.

Gili Yalo (vocal), Sefi Zisling (trumpet), Amir Sadot (bass), Noam Havkin (keyboard), Ben Aylon (drums), Yonatan Albalak (guitar), Yaron Sarel (sound engineer)
